MY NAME IS FREDERICK “WOOD” DELAHOUSSAYE AND I AM…
A POET, GIVING VOICE TO THE VOICELESS
My voice is a symbol of my freedom, a weapon of self-expression that gives me the motivation to scream, to dream, to validate my choices and decisions - to tell the word that I’m free despite my bondage, bold despite my fears, beautiful despite my scars.
I am a poet, a lover of words and emotion, of purpose and conviction, of truth, revolution and love.
A PRODUCER, PERFORMER, DIRECTOR, EMCEE
It's my intention to be artistically limitless; exploring and experiencing multiple disciplines both on and off stage.
On stage, I am a spoken word artist, emcee, actor, musician, and dancer.
Off stage, I am an artistic director, technical director, writer, lighting designer, and sound designer. I have produced and co-produced theater and dance theater works, school plays, major festivals, art bursts for conferences, and community-building events.
AN ADVOCATE, ACTIVIST, EDUCATOR
I am an advocate for the advancement of people of African descent from historic oppression and disenfranchisement to liberation and self-actualization.
The history and contributions of our lineage help to mold our knowledge of self and provide us with an understanding of our own culture. It is critical for this history to be celebrated, explained, observed, understood, and honored.
